Cormorant Problem

Over the last two years we have seen an increase in cormorants nesting and feeding around Lac du Cours. These birds will return and multiply every spring unless we discourage their behavior. They are shy and dislike human contact. We have found that scaring them away from their nesting areas works but it has to be done on a consistent basis. Therefore, we are seeking Lac du Cours young people who have access to a canoe who would be willing to go out daily around 4:30 p.m. and paddle to the islands and around the perimeter of the lake bothering the cormorants wherever they see them by sounding off a blast from an air gun (available from the lifeguards). Each trip (lasting approximately 75 to 90 minutes would be compensated by the board at $12 a trip. Anyone interested in this position should contact Susan Boyd at 414-793-8567.
