April 2011 President’s Message

Hello LDC residents! Here is my second to last news letter, after two years of them. We never know how many read them, but hopefully some have found them useful, in one way or another.

O.K., now spring is here! The ice left the lake this past weekend. My wife Meg and I were able to canoe Wednesday. She assisted me with my annual wood duck house cleaning and repair. Due to the terrific nesting success I have experienced in the past four years, I have increased the number of houses on our lake to five. We witnessed many anxious wood ducks, and many more sloppy mergansers, and geese. We also saw mallards, teal, and a few redheads. The lake was alive!

Our lake chairman, Lou Henneck, and I have been closely monitoring the lake’s level, and our new outlet dam, as the snow has melted, and the rain fallen. Everything is in order, believe it or not. At our annual Homeowner Association Meeting on Wednesday May 18th, Lou will report on the status of the lake, and the formation of a lake committee. There are many of us who do not live on the lake, but care a great deal about it. Steve Lauenstein will assume the lake chairmanship, as Lou leaves the board after three years.

LDC’s SPRING HELP DAY is Saturday, April 30th. Meet at the clubhouse at 9:00, with a helpful smile, work gloves, a rake, wheelbarrow, garbage bags, or maybe even waders. We will rake the grounds around the clubhouse and beach areas, spread clean woodchips in the PICNIC WOODS, assemble the pier, and pick up garbage throughout the neighborhood. Teenagers have a tendency to discard bottles and cans in certain areas. With enough help, we can be finished by noon. This is a ‘rain or shine’ date, so please dress accordingly. It has a benefit of camaraderie, and getting to know residents who might not congregate around our pool in summer. If you only have an hour before coaching or whatever, we’ll take it!

Projects scheduled around LDC in the near future will include a further assault on buckthorn, with BELLA’s help. As chair of grounds, we have created the PICNIC WOODS, reclaimed the borders around our athletic fields, and cleared our entrances, our interior triangle, and other spot areas. We will now expose a beautiful mature pine woods. See if you can notice where it is located.

Our tennis courts are to be redone by MUNSON (the professionals in this field) as soon as earth temperatures and moisture content permit. We are the first job on their docket. We will hold off putting up our court windscreens until the surface has been installed and painted. The nets might get put up ahead of this, weather permitting.

LDC assessments were due 3/31. Late fees will add to this billed amount. Usage of common LDC property is suspended for tardy residents until accounts are current with our treasurer. Further delinquencies lead to liens being placed on homes, as has been the practice in the past. Please understand how important the funds are in helping our community look sharp and run smoothly. Dumping yard waste in the Picnic Woods is not allowed, or appreciated, for the individual who had the gall to do this just this week.

If any of you have names of new neighbors, could you pass them along to me at: hnoyes@loyda.com ? I would like to welcome them in this newsletter.

I hope to see many of you on the 29th, and again on the 30th. See details on the 29th later in this issue.

P.S. I’d like to thank Rick and Zack Mayer, Ralph Koepp, and Lou Henneck for their volunteer help with chainsaw related issues we completed very recently. With great volunteers doing what we can, we save our association plenty of dollars, and keep our community looking it’s best. Please let us see you on April 30th.
