May 2011 President’s Message

What a day! Saturday April 30th was LDC SPRING HELP DAY. It was wonderful that so many volunteers showed up to work, in order to give back to the community we enjoy living in. The day can never work out perfectly for everyone, I realize, but the friendly spirit is contagious, seeing neighbors meet one another, many for the first time. I initiated Help Days, fashioning them after ideas from my family years at Heiliger Heugel Ski Club. Each family was required to show up in the off season for a work day. Chip & Connie Burghardt can tell anyone more about these days.

As you may have noticed, the pier and raft are in, the grounds are raked, the Picnic Woods are pristine, and the shoreline is raked, now that the lake level has receded. We made five trips to the Mequon dump, using our LDC trailer and Scottie Kruegers truck. We chain sawed tree debris also. And especially two great gals picked up 7 full bags of litter throughout and around our LDC borders on Donges Bay and River Roads. A small stretch along LeMont still needs attention, in case anyone is inclined.

Please thank all of our neighbors who participated this spring in helping give Lac du Cours its spring facelift. FROM PICARDY, Rick and Zach Mayer, John & Faith Schanowski, P.J.Keppeler, and Tim & Amy Hagerty. FROM FONTAINBLEAU, Robin Fazio, Susie, Sophie and Mick Allen, and Scott Krueger. FROM FLANDERS, Cory Zamora, and Todd Minkin. FROM PROVENCE, Shane Judd. FROM BRITTANY, John Bonnell, Mimi Foote, and Dan & Chris Contardi. FROM NORMANDY, Bruce and Susan Boyd. FROM ALSACE, Bill Aeschbacher and John Eckl. FROM BURGUNDY, Sven Skillrud and Scott Kolsky. FROM LeGRANDE, Lou & Barb Henneck, Chris Korjenek, and Gary Feldman. And finally, FROM RIVIERA, Val Moznaim, Bill & Zachary Kleiman, Joan & Nathan Bennett, and yours truly. I know I have missed some younger ones, but I wasnt sure who they belonged to. I am sorry for all omissions!

See how observant you are in these next two weeks, as our assault on buckthorn continues. Priorities are given to those areas most visible in our neighborhood. It is an ongoing project. See information following about our other enemy, garlic mustard! Tis the season.

I know you may have read this one year ago now, but, once again, it has been a pleasure to serve as your Grounds Chair, and your President, for the past two years, plus. I leave the board (again, and again for Todd Minkin) with confidence in our new board candidates, to be elected at our upcoming ANNUAL HOMEOWNER ASSN MEETING coming up on Wednesday the 18th. Mike Buffoni, Chris Contardi, and Gary Feldman will do a fine job. Lou Henneck, our Lake Chair for the past two years, leaves after fulfilling his three year term on the board. He has managed our lake and goose population with great concern and care. Thank you, Todd and Lou for your service.

Lastly, congratulations to our LDC bill payor, Brad Brogan, on reaching the half century mark, on April 30th!

Thats it for this contributor to the LDC NEWS.
