Summer is here for the kids and that means LDC Recreation starts and the pool opens – see below for important information regarding both (including a new sign in procedure at the pool).

Pool use:
- Pool is open every day noon-8 (weather permitting – must be at least 65 degrees and no thunderstorms).
- If guards hear thunder they are required to pull everyone out of the pool for 30 minutes.
- If at the end of 30 minutes there is still a threat of thunder and lightening then the pool will close for the remainder of that shift (12-4 and 4-8). If the weather permits the pool will remain for the next shift.
- If you plan to bring a large party (especially over 10 children) to the pool please consider arranging for an additional lifeguard to be on duty.
Some key pool policies (see full pool, lake and tennis policies in the LDC directory)
- Please sign in NEATLY EVERY time and note # of guests – see below for new sign in procedure;
- No glass anywhere on the pool deck, dock or beach (there is a supply of red cups in the guard room in case you forget);
- Please clean before you leave to minimize bees/ants and as respect to others who enjoy the pool after you;
- When coming from the beach/lake, please make sure to shower off BEFORE return to the pool area in the OUTSIDE shower (not the bathroom shower). The sand/silt clog our filters and drains causing costly repairs (to the pool and to the bathrooms). Please remind your children and their guests of this procedure. It really helps the upkeep of our drains.
- Please be respectful of closing times;
- Please do not correct/direct a lifeguard – if you have input please text Tyler Hicks (239) 246-3400 or Jeanne Mayer (310) 704-8231
- Please be conscious of where you sit on the side of the pool, make sure you do not block the line of sight of a lifeguard;
- Please remember that the lifeguards’ primary role is the safety of all in the pool, please respect and follow their directions (and that all in attendance with you do as well);
- Please remember there is no running on the pool deck for safety;
- Balls, noodles and other pool toys are allowed at the discretion of the lifeguards
For those of us with kids:
- Kids under 10 must be supervised, kids under 5 need a guardian in the pool or on the steps;
- The beach/lake is NOT supervised by the lifeguards;
- Please oversee bathroom behavior as necessary (ie. no spraying the shower outside the shower, tp properly handled). Yes, this was a problem over Memorial Day Weekend – kids were found spraying water around the bathrooms. Lifeguards do not oversee children in the building.
Lifeguards will:
- Keep their eyes on the pool while on duty;
- Correct inappropriate behavior in and around the pool deck only;
- Jump in the pool and save anyone in need – this is their primary function;
- Keep conversations with residents to a minimum (answer brief questions only) so that they can focus their attention on the swimmers;
- Keep all their personal electronic devices away from the pool side;
- Have a supply of basic first aid equipment on hand for anyone who may need something (no medication though).
Pool sign in procedure:
The sign in procedure has been a time-consuming process to tabulate. For this and other reasons we are trying a new system for this season.
The names of residents will be listed (as in the directory) alphabetically. Simply turn to the page with your name on it and sign in every time you visit the pool making sure to indicate the number of guests you bring with you. The guest pool fees ($2.00 per guest) will be added to your association dues in the beginning of 2019.
