Caution: Dangerous Invasive Plant in LDC

From the Grounds Chair, Andrew Kerr…

“Hogweed” or “Cow Parsnip” has been spotted in LDC. It is an extremely dangerous plant and should be handled with extreme caution. Hogweed sap contains a phytotoxic chemical that reacts to UV light and can cause chemical burns and welts. If you get the sap on your hands and rub your eyes, it can cause blindness in rare cases.

With regards to location, the plants I saw are on the southeast side of N0 (the area across from the tennis courts that got replanted last fall). However, this may not be the only location. Please be on the lookout for it.

We have contacted the WiDNR and have provided the GPS coordinates of the one in N0. They do not eradicate it, they only track it and provide information. However, I have a Tyvek suit and will remove them tomorrow from that location in N0.

Linked below and here you’ll find more info on the plant from NY DNR
