Last year around this time, John Hagerbaumer generated a lot of interest in an “Adopt-a-Tree” proposal, and we have some money set aside in the budget to support his idea. Adopt-a-Tree is meant to help fund tree replacement in LDC’s public-facing areas (the common areas) like our courts, areas around the Clubhouse/Pool, etc. To be clear, this is not meant to address ash tree reforestation areas. Many thanks to John for this idea – it’s a great way to ensure LDC’s shared spaces stay beautiful for generations to come. Here’s how it works: – Residents can sponsor the cost of the tree itself, help pick the species, size, and location. – If you are not sure where a tree is needed, Grounds can help with suggestions. – LDC will cover up to $3,000 of installation costs, which should cover several trees. – If you have an interest in getting involved, sponsoring a tree or learning more, please send an email to ldcnewsnow@gmail.com. Additional FAQs: Does this planting need to happen soon? Like in November? We have the potential to plant when Johnson’s is doing N0 in November, yes. Planting could also happen in Spring 2023 using the 2022 funds. Can anyone pick any tree or are there only certain types allowed? As the ones sponsoring/paying for the tree, residents can pick the tree they want, within reason. You need to work with the Grounds co-chairs and Johnsons on selection. Planting a tree that loves water in the middle of a dry area (or vice versa) won’t be warranted by Johnsons. Do residents get to say where in LDC they’re placed or are there rules around that? Similar to the above yes, within reason. Grounds co-chairs need to be ok with the location. There are easements that most residents don’t know about, and we want to make sure proper spacing is maintained for overall tree health. With the 3k we have for budget – how many trees does that allow to be installed? This depends somewhat on the size/species of tree selected. We estimate we have enough for 6-10 trees. LDC is paying for install only. Residents pay for the tree. How do the funds get used? Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have picked out a tree and have delivered a check to LDC, you are in line. |
