March 2011 President’s Message

Hello LDC Residents!

The snow is melting, and soon we will see signs of spring. I heard and saw robins at the clubhouse yesterday, and Lou Henneck reports that he has seen a few “scout geese” checking out the islands. Speaking of Lou, included separately is a letter summarizing the work done on our new regress dam, and pictures. I visited this project several times just to test my mud boots, and their ability to keep me upright. I don’t know how the county workers coped with this throughout that big thaw, and the weather that followed. Besides thanking them, we all owe thanks to Dean Piccard, who allowed access through his property to complete this project. His landscaping will be restored as part of the project.

The “past presidents” held their annual meeting to discuss candidates to serve on our LDC board, for three year terms. Three resident owners will be selected and confirmed, and then officially proposed to serve, filling various positions of responsibility.

Our LDC tennis courts are to be resurfaced “first thing”, when ground temperatures and moisture content permit. MUNSON had the best bid for this project, which was approved as part of last November’s Budget Meeting. There is no special assessment for this. The last major resurfacing occurred in the early 80s, as far as anyone recalls. We have “outlived” the stats on ‘court life expectancies’. We will have the surfaces repainted as part of this process. I expect the summer rec classes will even surpass last year’s enthusiastic numbers, and court usage will be dramatically increased. Besides serving as your president, I am the “Grounds Chair”, so you can imagine how excited I am to have this completed.

LDC SPRING HELP DAY will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday April 30th, starting at 8:30. It will not include any tennis court related work. I still ask and encourage people to show up with a rake, wheel barrel, work gloves, etc. We will assemble the pier, rake, and have patrols to walk LDC to pick up winter debris and garbage. We will freshen up the “Picnic Woods”, and perhaps plant some bushes around the clubhouse. The beach fire pit needs to be emptied, and perhaps some logs split. If we just get enough volunteers to chip in a few hours, we can be done by noon. Please see if you can attend, even for an hour.

Fold up card table chairs are free for the taking. Call Chris Korjenek, 414-507-2326 to arrange a pick up time.

HAPPY SPRING!
